What I have learnt since I quit my job

On Wednesday 22nd January 2020 I left my job of 2 and a half years. I am currently moving house and going to Bali in 5 weeks. I know what you are thinking... Why would you leave now?

I admit this was awful timing I wasn't planning on leaving this soon but sometimes you have to say enough is enough. I have lost people close to me over the last year and it makes you realise how much you should cherish your life and do what makes you happy. My job was not doing this. I would get that sunday dread that most of us get but it would get earlier and earlier in the day until I was actually dreading work on Monday while I was still on Saturday. This lead me to stop doing things because I was exhausted and down and then before I knew it Monday was here.

I am on Garden leave at the moment and interviewing and talking to recruiters all day every day. I still have another 3 weeks to find a role and sure I will be fine.

Since I have been off this last week it has been so nice to be active! I was sitting at a desk at least 9 hours a day only moving for more coffee or a quick toilet break. This last week I have been outdoors, I have done at least 10,000 steps a day, I have spent time with my partner, my Family and my gorgeous Labradoodle and it has made me realise there is so much more to life then that crappy job.

I mean.. I am positive now but I am yet to find a role. But I hope this can maybe give you a bit of a push you need to just do it. I think this will be one of my best decisions and 2020 already is looking like the best year yet

A Letter to My younger Self

Recently I've been thinking of how I have changed as a person not just from when I was 16 (8 Years ago! Yikes!) but even in the last year. I wish I could of told myself at 16; " Everything will end up okay". "What you do now won't refine you in your 20s"

Until Recently I have always had a case of FOMO (fear of missing out) . I spent more time on social media looking what other people were doing, how other people looked and just wanting to be someone else. A lot of this is due to social Media. However, I am not here to slate it by any means! I love Mrs Hinch as much as the next! I just wish I had spent more time living my life rather than wishing I was living someone elses.

I now do miss out on things with friends sometimes and see the pictures of them having fun. I don't have FOMO because I decided to stay in and not have the hangover and clean and hang out with my puppy! ( I know, I've Changed!)

So Here it goes.. A letter to 16 year old Katie.

Dear Katie (16),

Being 16 is a blessing. You are young, care free, you live at home with a loving Mother and you don't have to clean or do washing! Enjoy it! You don't have to pay rent, pay for bills, pay a mortgage. You get to learn 5 days a week! Anything you learn now will only help you in the future. Soak up every bit of knowledge you can.

Eat that cake! You are not fat! Your bod shape is just different to your friends, I know you don't believe me as you are 16 but it is puppy fat! Don't diet, eat healthy but don't diet. Spend time with your friends. Not boys! Realistically who ever the boy is you will not even know him in a few years time, your friends however, they are for life.

Stop looking through Instagram, Tumbler, Pintrest and what you think is an 'ideal body' go spend time with your Nan and Granddad, you will wish you did when you are in your 20s.

Don't drink alcohol! There is plenty of time for that at university. Don't waste your time drinking lambrini and making bad decisions. be fresh, healthy and active. Save your money for things you wont have money for later; clothes, Cinema, Ice-cream.

And finally spend as much time as possible with your family. I know you think you hate them and they are out to get you but they aren't. They love you and you will miss them so much when you move out or they aren't with you anymore.

Enjoy Being 16.

What to do when you are feeling down

We all get down no matter how good things are in our lives something can always change that mood. Sometimes you may not know what it is that is making you feel like this. You may think you have a great partner, family and job yet still feel down. This is the most important part of making yourself feel better, actually getting to the route of the problem.

I LOVE making lists, no matter what it is for I will make a list. I make a list before tidying, I make a list of things to do at the weekend, for my day agendas at work and so on. When I feel down I make a list of all the things it could possible be for example;

  • ·         Family- Is everyone well and healthy and are we all getting on
  • ·         Partner- Are you happy in your relationship , are you seeing each other enough, are you being intimate
  • ·      Job- Do you enjoy your job, if you do why? This alone could cheer you up or if you don’t why don’t you? Can you change something at work or do you need to find a new job
  • Friends/social life- are you seeing your friend’s enough? This is a major one for me I get so caught up with work and my partner and puppy that I think I haven’t actually seen any friends in months! Just having some time with the girls to chat and laugh can make such a big difference!

Once you have found the route to your unhappiness the next step is simple- just fix it! If you don’t like your job apply for a new one! A lot of people including myself have said before they don’t like their job then when I have asked are you looking for new ones the response is no.  It was the same with myself in retail, I hated working every weekend and bank holiday and missed out on so much yet didn’t even look for a new job.  Things don’t fix themselves , you are in control of your own happiness.

If you’re not happy, Fix it !

Facing My Fears

One of my main resolutions for this year is to do more of what scares me. My anxiety gets the better of me far too often and then it restricts me from getting the most out of my life. This year I told myself I'm going to say yes more and I am going to do more of what scares me and it is one of the best decisions I have made!

My main thing is I get too comfortable with the same things so it means i'm too scared to leave that comfort zone. One of my fears was driving, I passed when I was 18 after 4 tests and a year and a half of lessons every week! As you can tell I wasn't a natural. I then went to university so didn't need to drive until I moved back home summer 2016. I got a promotion at my job, which meant I had to move stores to one that was 11 miles away, and I had to go on the motorway!! I drove with no music, clammy palms, shaking from the anxiety but now I love driving! I am currently on a course in Bedford which was an 103 mile journey and I did it with ease and actually enjoyed it. Doing that small step of taking a job further away from home has helped my anxieties of driving and also opened up so many doors as I can now drive to places that I probably just wouldn't have gone to before!

Another thing that scared me at the start of the year that I have already concurred is talking on the phone. I don't know why it scared me, surely it should be easier than talking to someone face-to-face as they can't actually see you but I just couldn't do it. I couldn't even order a take away! Now with my promotion I have to answer the phone a lot and I feel so much better for being able to do it. It makes my life a lot better as I can just ring people for help if I need it, and it saves the time as you don't have to text or email and it has made me confident as a person.

I suggest that everyone should do something that scares them everyday or even every week as it feels great and I feel like I have already accomplished so much this year and it's only Feb!!

Australia: Sydney VS Melbourne

Australia is so big it is hard to decide which parts to visit. We are here for 5 weeks and have already visited Melbourne and Sydney and I am currently in  Adelaide and going to Camberra in a few days. I found Sydney and Melbourne completely different places to visit and thought I would go through the comparisons especially if you don't know where you want to visit, but I would still suggest both if you have the time.

SYDNEY
Arriving in Sydney is so surreal, that is the Australia you see in films and on the TV that was the moment that I thought 'wow, we're actually in Australia!' Sydney is the perfect place for your first visit to the country as it is tourist central. If I were to compare it to London it would be Southbank. You have the iconic opera house which would be like the London eye- but much more impressive. We went to Toronga zoo which was amazing. Its $55 each and you get a ferry to the zoo then a cable cart up into the zoo. I am a big fan of animals and zoos but I do sometimes question how happy the animals are there. However I was most impressed by the amount of space each animal had and they were not squished into small cages. We even got to walk through a bit where there were kangaroos and an emu and they were just jumping around and we could go stroke the kangaroo and feed it which was something I really wanted to do when coming to Australia.

We also did the Aquarium which wasn't as impressive as it was quite the same as other Aquariums you can go too but it was raining that day so thought we would do an inside activity. It is very expensive in Sydney as you can expect and we even paid $30 for two pints of Peroni! I know! However we found after some research if you drink in happy hour it is only about $5 a pint and if you make your way through a few you can actually drink in happy hour from 4-8 in various bars. Overall I loved Sydney and it was just what I wanted as a tourist coming for the first time. I wouldn't go again as I feel I have done it now but would recommend to anyone coming for their first time.

MELBOURNE
Melbourne is a completely different ball game. Melbourne is a combination of Oxford/Regent street (LDN) and cool Brick lane ( EAST LDN). It is a shoppers paradise full of all types of shops including a Sephoria which I was very excited about, coming from the UK where we don't have one. If you want to go somewhere to shop this is where you go. The shopping centres go on forever you could shop all day and not go in the same shop twice.

It also has some cool trendy areas. We went to Fitzroy for breakfast one day which is definitely like east London. We went to 'Marios' which is the cutest little cafe where they make there own coffee and jams and wine. The man who served who i believe was the owner was so friendly and spoke to us about our trip suggested places to go and made us feel welcome. I had fried eggs, sourdough and haloumi and was one of the tastiest breakfasts I have ever had. Also the freshly made orange juice is a must! There is a tram that goes throughout Melbourne but we decided to walk everywhere as the weather is gorgeous and you can see so much more.

Our first hotel was right in the centre so that is when we did a lot of the shops. Our second apartment was near Southbank which is again like being a different city all together.  We walked across Southbank bridge which was decorated for the festive season with a giant mistletoe. We then walked all across the river stopping for a cheeky beer until we ended up at an outside beer garden which a DJ and various food stalls and even some people dressed as zebras having a dance. Such a cool place and you always find something completely different each corner you turn down. I loved Melbourne and would go again and would even like to live there as I don't think you could ever get bored of Melbourne.

Australia: Blue Mountains NSW

I was planning on blogging throughout my trip to Australia, but the honest truth is I have just been having too much fun! But me and my Boyfriend made it half way across the world and yes, the journey wasn't pleasant but was worth every hour.

We are staying with my boyfriend's grandparents who live in Bowral NSW and not too far from them is the blue mountains. Going up and around the blue mountains was so refreshing. From hearing kookaburras in the trees to be able to look out onto nothing but trees and not a building in sight. No stress from work or social life just breathing in the fresh air and catching the sun rays. This is what I needed. I work as a supervisor at a shop and it is a fast paced job and one in which you don't get a lot of fresh air as you are in store for 10 hours so to be able to relax with nature is just what I needed. This is the most beautiful country I have ever seen and I am so excited to explore more.

Review: Lee Stafford Hair Growth Treatment

The tag line on this Lee Stafford product is "for hair that never grows past a certain length". As soon as I read that I was interested as my hair is not short however it has not grown past a certain length in at least a year, therefore I thought I would try this treatment.

I have never been so happy with a product. You put it through your hair in between shampoo and conditioner and rinse and it leaves your hair feeling silky smooth and tangle free which is good for me, seeing as my hair is so thick and tangles easily. I was sure I could see a difference in length straight away, but maybe that was just wishful thinking. I have been using this every time I wash my hair which is every other day fo 2 weeks and my hair is in much better condition and visibly longer too! I would recommend this to anyone who is having trouble growing out their hair. The pink packaging and the pink product inside is a bonus and it smells so good! £8.49 for 200 ml you can't go wrong!!

Graduation - Class of 2016

Yesterday I graduated in Fashion Journalism from the University Of creative Arts. That achievement is now with me for life I am a graduate. The three years were eventful, challenging, inspiring and life changing and I will cherish the memories and keep the thing that I was taught with me for life. Getting to celebrate it with my fellow graduands, my family, and my boyfriend was overwhelming and an amazing experience.

As each course is announced they say the achievements that have already been achieved by pupils on each course which honestly left me feeling a bit down as I pondered what is I have achieved? Why wasn't my name mentioned? But I have achieved so much even if it has not placed me in a career quite yet. I made a whole magazine by myself, I learnt confidence which I lacked before starting Uni and I have changed so much in the past few years for the better and hopefully that will help me in later life.

But now I need a career. I have a job, I am a sales assistant but that isn't a career. But how do I choose a career when I have no idea what I want to do. On December 8th I go to Australia for a Month and either before then or while I'm there I need to decide on the career in which I will pursue for probably the rest of my life. Zandra Rodes who is the Chancellor at my University said if you don't know what you want to do now that is okay, even if next year you do not know your degree doesn't disappear I am now a graduate and who knows what my next Chapter is. This is not the end, this is the beginning.

Bondi Sands Everday Tanning Milk: Review

I have extremely pale skin and am fond of a bit of fake tan. However, I usually end up patchy or orange. I have found even with gradual tans that it always becomes patchy (this may be my application). However, I have now found the holy grail of all tanning products. Bondi Sans everyday tanning milk has been a lifesaver. It has a really gorgeous glowy colour that looks like a completely natural tan and can be applied so smoothly. I have been using for three weeks every day when I have got out the shower and it has given me the perfect all over glow.

I did find however, that when I went to stay with my mum for the weekend and forgot to bring it with me that it did start to go patchy so it does need to be used every day.  It is not a chore to put on as it goes over the skin smoothly and smells delicious so much so that I look forward to putting in on where in other cases I honestly just didn't put in the effort. You also don't get any orange bits in between your fingers! WIN!

I bought it from Superdrug on offer for £7.99 but I think it is back to its original price of £11.99 which is still great value for money. I have about a quarter of the bottle left which means I used three-quarters in 3 weeks which I think is pretty good. I really recommend anyone gives it a go, especially as we are starting to see a bit of sun now in the UK!

The Intern

I recently watched 'The Intern' starring Robert Deniro and Anne Hathaway. I have always loved a feel good film nothing makes me feel better than curling up with a cup of tea and watching a real feel good film.

A quick synopsis of the film for those of you who are not familiar of the film: Anne Hathaway's character has started up her own business on her own and it has become hugely successful as it has expanded. The company think of trying something different and hiring a senior citizen intern. This is where Robert Deniro comes in, he is a widower who still enjoys getting up in the morning and being productive. When he sees an advert for this internship he decided to give it a go. Anne Hataway is not thrilled to be given a senior to work with but soon grows to love him as does the audience. To have that much aspirations at 70 is so inspiring to see.

One of my favourite things in this film is the true friendship you see between this unlikely to people and they have both had their hard times as we see throughout the film and they help each other get through it and it really is such a heart warming film and I would highly recommend it to anyone especially if you need so uplifting.

LF Loves - February's Look Fantastic Beauty Box

I know I am a bit late on this one but here it is- February's Look Fantastic Beauty Box. This month's box revolved around valentines as it is the month of Love it had all things you need for a perfect Valentines Day.

1. First of all was the Monuspa relaxing Bali massage and body oil. This feels so nice on the skin, it's perfect for if you have dry skin I used it on my legs which get quite dry in the winter and it did wonders. It can also be used to massage seeing as it is valentines and it glides so smoothly and has the most relaxing scent. I would never really think of buying something like this but I am definitely going to re purchase once I have finished it.

2. Next up is one of the best body butters I have ever used. I love the body shop body butter and have done for years but sometimes it just feels much to think and isn't very good if you are in a rush as it takes a while to spread evenly on your body. This 'Bliss' Pink Grapefruit and aloe body butter, however, is amazing. Firstly the scent, I love anything with a grapefruit scent so it is doing well from the outset. It is more like a moisturiser than the body shop body butters as it glides on the skin a lot easier however it is just as moisturising as it would be from a thicker substance. Also, the size is perfect for a night away as it is in a compact tube and makes you skin feel like silk!

3. This next product I was very excited about. I always like to try new things on my brows so when I saw this 'Hi Impact Brows' kit I couldn't wait to try it. I personally prefer a pencil to a powder however I have been using the powder to fill in the middle of my brows and a pencil to get the shape and it actually stays on all day. It can also be used as a contour palette which I have used it for every day since I received it. The colours are perfect for contour as they are quite dark and not too warm and I have been having compliments on my contouring ever since I started using it so I would definitely recommend this. Additionally, it's full size!

4.  Now we are onto the lip product of the month which is the Lord and Berry Matte lipstick Pencil. I never usually use lip products I don't know why I just prefer to have natural lips. This is why I like this product because it doesn't feel as though you have anything on, it is quick and easy to apply and it is a lovely neutral shade so it is perfect for days when you don't want to wear a lot of makeup but still look as though you have made a bit of an effort. Also, it is perfect for a date night as if you do have a cheeky kiss it doesn't smudge or come off at all!

5.  Next up is a handbag essential a mini Denman hairbrush! This is perfect to keep in your bag if you are going on a date or going clubbing. Unfortunately, for me, I have quite curly hair that if you brush it when dry you end up looking as though you have been electrocuted! However, it would be useful when my hair is straight and for anyone else that likes to brush their hair on the go.

6.  The last product was  KMS colour vitality conditioner. I dyed my hair purple earlier this month so was in need of a colour protection conditioner and its purple conditioner! It is not very good if you have thick tangled prone hair like me, so I use my Tresemme conditioner first to get out all the tangles and then I do a second conditioner with this and it leaves my hair silky soft. If you have thinner hair that doesn't tangle easily you would be fine using this on its own. My colour has faded slightly but it has been about three weeks so I would expect it to fade slightly but I can still see a hint of purple.

If all of that was enough there was also a full Elle magazine included to read as you have a pamper!

That is everything I got in this months Look Fantastic box and I will let you know what I get in March's (MY BIRTHDAY MONTH)

Hope You all had a fab weekend

Welcome Back!

I adore reading blogs. I love reading something from someone else's thoughts and finding out what other people are finding interesting or loving at the moment. The same way as many people love reading books which of course I do also but reading blogs is one of my favourite past times.

This brought me to think if other people feel the way I do about blogs then I should give them the chance to read mine and get that same excitement that I get. Over the last few years, my life has got a lot more hectic as I am now in my final year of University! (How did that happen!?) This has resulted in me being a bit lazy towards my blog and in fact just neglecting it.

However I am going to try my best from now on to keep you all updated and give back some of the pleasure I find reading blogs and hopefully some of you will feel the same about mine.

Stay Happy

John Frieda- Precision Foam hair dye.

As the autumnal months are upon us, I thought it was time for a change in both beauty and fashion.

After having ombre hair for the best part of 3 years I though it was time to change it up. I opted for a more natural brown (dark natural brown to be precise).

When looking through the copious amounts of hair dye i was completely overwhelmed not knowing which one to pick. Eventually I decided on the 'John Frieda precision foam home hair dye', which turned out to be a smart move. They have a wide range of hair colours - 20 in fact. As I said previously I went for the Dark natural brown, which is very dark sort of a browny black colour.

Now, I had never used a foam hair dye before however it was so easy to use. Starting from the routes you massage it into your hair in circular motions. The dye comes out really dark which means it is easy to see which parts are covered and which are not you then carrying on massaging around the head until you have all over coverage. You get a lot of dye from the box and it suggest to use only half for short hair but if you have long hair like myself you should use the whole bottle. After leaving on for half an hour you rinse out and use the John Frieda conditioner which is so good. My hair has never felt in such good condition and after using a hair dye.

I highly recommend buying if you do want to change up your hair colour exspecially as we are changing seasons.

Moschino SS15 at Milan Fashion Week

Jeremy Scott has done it again! He has managed to top his previous McDonalds and Spongebob line with barbie themed Moschino at last night's show in Milan

In every seat was a boxed Moschino Barbie and a
hand held mirror Iphone case following up Jeremy Scott's previous cartoon rubberised McDonald's case.  Jeremy Scott is in no way toneing it down and rightly so! His taste in popular culture is clearly working as all of his garments and accessories are selling and fast!

Scott literally created living dolls, the platinum blonde wigs placed perfectly, legs and arms were sheened to the max to create a 'plastic' look as they all totted down the runway.

The first half of the fifteen minute show was predominantly bubblegum pink, as barbie should be! We even saw model Charlotte Fee rollar blade down the runway  replicating roller barbie. Of course the runway soundtrack was Aqua's 'Barbie Girl' what else could it be!?

By far the best was saved to last with the 80s inspired metallic polka dot dress with iredesent  ruffles! Which highly resembles the real deal worn by barbie herself.

In addition to Marc Jacobs' 'Dream House' shoes is Barbie officially  making a comeback? Let's just hope that Scott's BFF Miley Cyrus incorporates some Moschino barbie in to her everyday attire!

My Christmas Wish List

This year will be my first christmas as an adult. Don't get me wrong growing up is a blast, you have more freedom, you start to discover who you are and you are more independent than ever. However when asked what I wanted for christmas from friends or family I was stumped, all I could think of was money for books, food, going out etc. However through deep consideration I have compiled a wish list of things that would be good to find under my tree or maybe even things I can purchase with christmas money. feel free to ask for some of these yourself or grab them in the christmas sales!

Nike Air Max

After trying a pair on in urban outfitters I instantly fell in love. They are unbelievably comfy and look so cool too. Due to the raised platform they make your legs look long and slim and you can dance all night. I am a big fan of raves which is at least 6 hours of non stop dancing so this will be perfect for them. They aren't the cheapest of shoes but they are durable so will last a long time. This is my favourite pair I have found so far but I am still scouting. This are in office  and retail at £94.99 which is cheaper than getting them from nike themselves. There are so many different designs to choose from and the prices vary for all but I cannot recommend these enough and definitely will be grabbing a pair in January.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Holographic Wallet

I actually stole this idea from my housemate who loves all things holographic and has converted me. This purse is gorgeous and can brighten up an everyday outfit and add a bit of shine to a dull day. The downfall is it retails at £140 on Net-A- Porter. However fear not I have found a dupe at river island...
It may not be the real deal but it does retail at a mere £15. This means you can have a holographic purse and have more money in it. This is definitely on my christmas list, may be pushing it to add the Marc Jacobs one. But this can be in almost anyones budget even i it means not going out one week it will be worth it for when you do and get compliments on your new purse.

Fairy Lights

Yes, fairy lights. My room in my house share isn't the largest of rooms and my 2014 mission is to make it somewhere I can relax, blog, do uni work. One of the things I have wanted in my room since I was young is fairy lights. With my room being so small fairy lights will make it cosy and brighten up the place. I am yet to find the perfect set so if anyone knows anywhere or even sells them themselves let me know.

I think that is the three main things. I can finally start feeling christmasy now my fashion moment deadline is complete. I look forward to drinking hot choc, wrapping presents and watching Elf. Hope everyone is feeling a little christmasy now too, seeing as its only 2 weeks away! Where has this year gone!?

Stay cool

Supersized Silhouettes

This year’s A/W Catwalk went bigger ever! Whether it was Oversized Knits, Baggy Trousers,or your ‘Boyfriend’s’ Suit Jacket, Fashion went up a size (yet the models remained the same)

Large fashion can be daunting especially if you are short or maybe a little curvy, but fear not its all about sizing it the right way so you’re not drowning in garments.

Baggy Trousers is a huge fear of mine as I live in skinny and straight fit but this year is about venturing out of your comfort zone and experimenting with shapes.  Nobody wants to look like MC Hammer so its all about feminising them and adding your own twist.  Teaming them up with a tight crop and fitted blazer can add a whole new look to and a cute feminine twist and at the same time keeping up with the  female suit which is also occurring on this years catwalk.

Oversized Knits is a personal favourite of mine. They look casual and cosy and at the same time are bang on trend. I love to team up my baggy sweaters with large necklaces and skinny trousers/jeans. Dark coloured sweaters however can make you look a bit  unkempt so maybe opt for a cute pastel coloured one to stay cute and comfortable.

Last but at no means least is the full skirt. I love everything about 50s fashion and to see the full skirts on the catwalk was a great excuse to let out my inner 50s girl. Full skirts that cinch you in at the waste are super flattering especially if you carry your weight in the middle. If you want to go full on 50s team it up with a cute peter pan collar shirt or you can be bang on trend and team it up with a baggy cropped knit.

You can do it go big or go home!

My Favourite designers: Yves Saint Laurent

Hellooo,

I am starting a new segment on my blog which will cover all my favourite designers and a bit about them. I am
starting with the world renowned Yves Saint Laurent who unfortunately passed just 5 years ago.

Born in Oran, Algeria Yves Saint Laurent always wanted to be a designer. Age seventeen he studied at Chambre syndicale la haute couture in Paris. He was spotted by Christian Dior and asked to work at the house. In 1957 Dior had chosen Saint Laurent to succeed him as a designer. One year later Dior passed away leaving the twenty one year old as head designer at Dior.

In1958 Saint Laurent designed the trapeze dress (a full- shouldered dress with
a semi-fitted bodice and short, flared skirt). Two years later he created the
youth oriented collection which featured a shorter version of the hobble skirt
(originally created by Poiret ) .

In the 60s Saint Laurent brought black leather jackets, turtleneck sweaters and fur trimmed hems. Modern street design was shown in Haute Couture collections.

Due to Dior being outraged by these venturesome garments they stopped protecting him and he was called up to serve in the Algerian War. This resulted in Saint Laurent suffering from chronic depression and was sent to a psychiatric hospital. Saint Laurent’s
partner Pierre Berge got him discharged and they started up their own house
as Marc Bohan had taken over as head designer at Dior.

His first collection in
1962 debuted the Pea Jacket ( heavy, double breasted hip length), and
women’s smocks ( loose, knee length dress).

In 1965 he began to incorporate
art when he created the Mondrian dresses. In 1966 he created the smoking
Jacket ( long sleeved, short Jacket decorated with buttons)  for women. This
was a significant movement in fashion as it introduced the androgynous
 look.

In 1968, now living in Marrakech and experimenting with drugs such as
LSD, he was the first designer to introduce promiscuity to the catwalk with see-
through blouses. This was also the year of the classic Safari Jacket ( breast,
shell and hand pockets, belted and reached just below the hips)  . In
addition to this Saint Laurent met model Betty Catroux who becomes his muse and
 best friend.

The 70s brought the trouser suit and blazer. This began his
Menswear collection. He also brought his 40s inspired collection that was
inspired by Warhol’s ‘Drag Queens’. This brought outrage among press.

Yves Saint Laurent was one of the most important designers of the 20th Century.
 Saint Laurent was a leader.

Stay Sweet

Vintage Icons

This post is dedicated to some of the most iconic people in Fashion from the past few decades. I will be following this post with more modern day icons shortly. Enjoy!

Patti Smith

Patricia Lee Smith, better known as Patti smith is an American singer/songwriter,poet and visual artist, who played a huge part in the movement of the punk rock era with her debut album Horses (1975).
As you can see from the album cover Patti rocked the androgynous look in fashion. This was not just through clothing but bone structure and figure, as it was very manly.
Modern day Icons such as Alexa Chung have brought this unconventional style back in fashion and highstreet stores such as Topshop have also jumped on the bandwagon by having an 'Androgynous' section on their website.

Eddie Sedgwick

Edith Minturn Sedgwick, known as Edie was an american actress and model. She is best known for being one of Post modern artist/ Director Andy warhol's superstars. In 1965 Sedgwick became known as 'The Girl Of The Year' after being in several of Warhol's films in the 60s.Additionally Vogue magazine named her a 'Youthquaker'

Twiggy

Lesley Lawson more widely known as 'Twiggy'is one of the women that has done the Brits proud in the fashion industry. Twiggy is the definition of the 'swinging sixties'. The nickname 'Twiggy' was given to her due to her thin build. Twiggy is another person to pull of the androgynous look with her iconic short hair cut, however was more feminine than Patti due to her long eyelashes. Twiggy was named 'The Face of 1966' by The Daily express. She was also named woman of the year and by 1967 had modelled in France, Japan and the USA, not to mention being on the cover of Vogue and The Tatler.
